Hurford’s are committed to our forests, our community and our future. We underpin our commitment with a progressive hardwood reforestation project. We have purchased over 5,000 hectares of land in NSW, Australia which will see more than 25,000 new plantation eucalypt saplings established each year. These plantations will be carefully managed and are established according to strict environmental guidelines and a code of practice designed to protect soil and water resources and support the surrounding habitat with special consideration to the native flora and fauna. This includes amenity plantings in every planting operation, never to be harvested, these mixed species trees are established on creek banks for soil protection and to complement designated natural regeneration areas to provide additional corridors of native forest for current and future generations. When you purchase a Hurford’s hardwood deck you can be sure sustainability is top of mind. When it comes to composites, Hurford’s Trex® composite decking is manufactured with some of the most earth friendly manufacturing processes in the world. Reclaiming factory waste and eliminating the use of harmful chemicals. Trex® Composite Decking is made from a blend of up to 95% recycled plastic film and sawdust from reclaimed wood that would otherwise end up in landfill. By using reclaimed sawdust, a tree is never cut down to produce a Trex® Composite decking board.
Hurford’s offer a large range of high quality kiln-dried best decking timber species from your traditional hardwoods Vitex and Garapa to our Australian Hardwood range which includes species such as Spotted Gum and Ironbark. Hurford’s have access to a variety of markets worldwide so are able to source an impressive variety of native and exotic specialty timbers in various sizes. Our Trex® Composite Decking is available in two ranges, Trex® Transend Premium Tropicals and the Trex Transend Lineage range. Both provide many on trend colour options from a cool medley of calming silver tones mimicking the weathered look, toasty brown and grey undertones reflecting white sands to your darker vibrant reddish-black hues resembling tropical and refined wood grain patterns that add beauty and luxury to any outdoor space.

Hardwood Decking or Trex® Composite Decking

What is the difference between the two types of decking?

Hardwood Timber Decking

Hardwood timber decking is produced using high-quality, hardwood timber species such as Vitex, Garapa, Spotted Gum, Ironbark, and Blue Gum. These are known for their strength, durability, and resistance to rot, decay, and insect damage. Hardwood decking timber is prized for its rich, natural beauty, characterised by intricate grain patterns and deep colours which silver off unless oiled. Due to its longevity, hardwood decking timber typically requires less frequent replacement but if oiled or stained will need regular maintenance to maintain its appearance and protect it from weathering.
Trex® Composite decking offers a practical, modern and attractive alternative to traditional wood decking. Composite Decking is made from a blend of wood fibres and plastic, it provides excellent durability and resistance to rot, mould, and insect damage. Composite decking requires minimal maintenance, eliminating the need for staining, sealing, or painting. It retains its colour and appearance over time, even under harsh weather conditions. Available in various styles and colours, composite decking can mimic the look of natural wood while offering enhanced longevity and ease of care. These attributes make it an ideal choice for homeowners seeking a low- maintenance, long-lasting outdoor decking solution.
